In a study by Nalgene, Portland OR is rated as America's 3rd least wasteful city. In a study of America's 25 largest cities, we did pretty well. We finished below San Francisco and New York, and one above Seattle. Last on the list is Atlanta.
This isn't much of a surprise to us as we are generally ahead of the curb in many ways. What is surprising is that New York beats us and that we don't use more rain barrels. Might be we wouldn't know what to do with THAT much water...
Way to go Portland!!!

Voted or chosen, I know a lot of Realtors that say they were voted top Realtor by an independent Lab (a picture of a dog) appears beside there picture. I am a numbers cruncher so I like seeing how folks manipulate surveys and % of people. I guess if that what you wanted from lif or the people in Portland than congratulations.
Charles - Thanks for the comment. Sounds like a better word for me to have used was "selected" or "chosen". According to the study, 1750 people from the 25 cites were surveyed. This meas about 150 per city. Based on their answers, the cities were selected. Not a real scientific selection process, but that would be too expensive. This was more like a political poll.. Here's the link. Crunch away http://www.leastwastefulcities.com/study.html
